The McDonnell Douglas MD-80 is a family of single aisle airliners developed and manufactured by now-defunct American aerospace manufacturing company McDonnell Douglas (merged into Boeing in 1997). It is basically a modified version of the Douglas DC-9 and it made its first flight on October 18, 1979. It was in production until 1999. 1,191 planes MD-80s were built, although frankly only a few of them still soar the skies today, the biggest operators of the MD-80 today are: -Aeronaves TSM, a Mexican airline with 15 MD-80s.-LASER Airliners, an airline based in Caracas, Venezuela. They have 11 MD-80s.-World Atlantic Airlines, a Florida based chartered airline with 9 MD-83s.(as of June 2021)
